About This Spot

Nestled on Depot Street in the heart of small-town Townsend, Townsend House unfolds like a welcoming neighbor’s kitchen — warm, unpretentious, and steady in its charm. This American restaurant and bar invites you to pause amidst the soft hum of conversations and the occasional clink of glasses, where the pace favors comfort over rush and gathering over glare.

Step inside, and you’ll find a space that feels lived-in, familiar yet distinct, adorned with vintage signs and local touches that tell quiet stories of the area’s past. Whether you settle in at the polished bar with a cold beer or choose a cozy table to watch the day slow down, there’s a sense of ease here that encourages lingering.

The kitchen, anchored in classic flavors, offers a heartfelt mix of comforting dishes — from rustic seafood fare to hearty sandwiches and satisfying salads — all served with a straightforward generosity that invites sharing. The homemade onion rings have earned friendly nods around town, while the seafood dishes reflect the region’s coastal heritage without fuss. It’s the kind of menu that feels like a conversation between kitchen and table, familiar but never dull.

Conversations here ebb and flow gently, whether between neighbors catching up or couples discovering a reliable spot to return to. The atmosphere is grounded in genuine moments rather than staged ambiance, and even at busier times, the space manages to maintain a sense of calm hospitality. Though service can occasionally find its own rhythm, diners often find the food and the unpretentious spirit well worth the wait.

For those who know Townsend House, it’s not just about the meal — it’s about the comfortable pause it offers from the everyday, a reliable stop where dishes arrive like old friends and the mood carries a quiet warmth. A classic gathering place where depth is found not in flash, but in the simple pleasure of an honest meal and good company.

My Husband and I have driven by this restraint many times and always wanted to stop. Today we did!!! I had the turkey club and I have never seen aone so stuffed before. It was delishous. Hubby had cheeseburger and he said it was great. Also had onion rings which were out of this world. We will be back.

We travel to NH to find blueberry milk, yes that’s right blueberry milk, so delicious. In our travels, this is actually our 2nd time here. My wife ordered the baked stuffed haddock, I had the swordfish. Both were very good, my wife’s had very good flavor. In the dining room, I certainly like the atmosphere. So many vintage signs there, I’m presuming they are from the area. The place is clean, staff is rather quick and had no issues. We will certainly be back.

The waitress was slow. Had to ask another waitress to fetch her so we could order. Then the same for our bill. Food was good for the price.

We sat at the bar and had a cold beer and delicious boneless wings and zucchini sticks. Service was better than expected.

I have been going here on the regular since finding this place. I usually go twice per week. I always get the Veal & mushroom gravy for 1 entree and the Clam strips with fries for my 2nd. The food is too good here to just order 1 entree. My wife gets all sorts of different meals, though. All are great. You can not go wrong here. No matter how packed that this place gets, the quality is always high, the service fast and friendly with reasonable prices. The only way that you can go wrong is to drive by this place. I'm the guy with the camo jacket, who always brings his wife.

Our 1st visit and it was wonderful. The servers were attentive and friendly. They had great specials and tonight's homecooked Beef & Barley soup was amazing! So hearty, hot and filling. The ambience was warm and cozy, and very family oriented. We went a little early to avoid the big crowds expected after the fall fests and fairs on this beautiful sunny day. Can't wait to go back.

First time here but not my last! I loved the cozy feeling of this place from the moment we were greeted till the moment we left, we were treated like royalty. I love honey for my fries..no problem. Cheeseburger club delicious. I couldn't open my mouth wide enough. My sos-in-laws Chicken salad..wow!! My daughter clam plate..yum!! I loved the wide wooden plank floors the old tin signs. Can't wait to go back!!!
